Read only access / Flexible permissions

The community has spoken, and significant numbers of OCC users wish to be able to limit access to some of their committee members. This might be purely read-only access, or more flexible arrangements, such as ability to edit events/attendees but not vehicles and so on.

This has been resisted for a long time, due to concerns about complexity for its own sake, and the fact that most committees are small groups of people known to each other. However, since the implementation of Member Group functions, it has developed far greater importance, since users of the same database may not be known to each other.

If you have any thoughts on Read Only access or other Access related issues, comments are welcome.

  • Read only access is something our club needs. We have a large membership base, both in number and wide spread locations and would like our scrutineers and rego signatories to be able to check people are financial members BEFORE signing any registration renewal doc's. We don't need scrutineers to be able to enter data - this is for the secretary treasurer, or membership director to administer.
  • One thought you might consider - it is extremely easy to generate a spreadsheet of "current members", from the Data tab on the home page, or from the Members List. If the purpose is to provide Registrars or Scrutineers with an easily checked list that they can use at an event, this might be worth considering.
